MarThe Loss of Historical Building…
Old town area in Jakarta is the witness of history that will never be replaced, Very sad to see many of them are abandoned and seems neglected.
One of the old building that collapse on March 17th, 2011 was Gedung Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (JASINDO). This Art Deco-style building built in 1912; it had been a witness to the triumph of Batavia as a center for business and trade in the Dutch colonial era.
Based on data UPT Old Town in 2008, there were 824 old buildings that are divided in five zones. As many as 59 buildings including the building of cultural heritage (BCB). From 59 BCB that, the city administration has 5 buildings in between. BUMN owned 26 BCB with treated conditions (12 buildings) and untreated (14), 21 BCB privately owned (16 treated and 5 untreated), and 7 BCB individual property (4 treated and 3 untreated).
However it was three years ago…now, condition of these buildings remains the same…untreated
Here’s several photos of the building before and after collapse:

Conservation for historical places like old town in Indonesia still far behind other Asian country. If there’s a little concern from government, actually historical places could become attraction for foreigner and will increase tourism revenue. Hence, the important thing is about time required the involvement of all parties in maintaining the heritage of the nation’s history.
